What’s happening?
The Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill is currently making its way through parliament. Now is the time to stand together and make our voices heard.
With hundreds of new MPs, we have an opportunity to call for change and begin taking steps towards dismantling the hostile environment.
What's wrong with the proposed legislation?
With humanitarian crises around the world spiralling, we need an asylum system that recognises people’s need for protection and safety, as well as their humanity.
This Bill does nothing to address the need for safe routes, legal aid or safe accommodation for people seeking asylum.
We’re particularly concerned about these aspects of the Bill:
- The criminalisation of people seeking asylum and those supporting them
- No commitment to safe routes
- No mention of desperately needed legal aid provision
- Lack of commitment to initiatives that enable people to integrate
- Lack of compassionate language and leadership that protects people in need
What can I do?
Demand change by writing to your MP. You can download the template letter below and adapt it to your own voice and style. Remember, the more personalised the letter is, the bigger the impact.
Request a meeting in person. We’ve found that face-to-face contact is really helpful in building a constructive relationship with your MP.
