Pray
Prayer is vital to the work of the Boaz Trust, and we would love you to be a part of it.
Why pray?
The Boaz Trust is a Christian organisation, and what we do stems from our belief that God loves asylum seekers, and cares passionately about justice and mercy for the oppressed in our world.
We see this throughout the Bible, for instance, in Leviticus 19:24 God reminds us that: “The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.”
The Bible is also where the origin of our name can be found- Boaz was an Israelite who we encounter in the book of Ruth, in the Old Testament. Boaz was a man who treated Ruth, a foreign widow with no means of support, with love and respect, according to God’s commandments.
We, like Boaz, want to restore dignity, hope and self-worth to those who, like Ruth, are destitute and dependent on the mercy of their host nation.
If you’ve got questions or want to find out more about why we do what we do, please contact us.
Breaking Barriers- Poverty and Homelessness Action Week 2012
This January we’re taking part in Poverty and Homelessness Action Week (a national week of prayer and action, organised by our friends at Church Action on Poverty).
The theme for the week is ‘Breaking Barriers’, and we’re using the week to run our own prayer events, by encouraging churches across the city to host prayer meetings between the 28th Jan- 5th Feb. We are doing this through our network of Boaz Ambassadors, that is, Boaz supporters attending different churches in the city. If your church doesn’t have an ambassador- or you’d like to become one- please get in touch.
Prayer events are happening between the 28th Jan- 5th Feb at the following churches:
Bolton Road Methodist Church- prayer as part of eve service on Sun 29th Jan (6pm)
Mountchapel Salford- Tues 31st Jan- morning prayer event (as part of daily prayer activities) 10:30-12:00
Ivy Manchester- Wed 1st Feb (contact Lucy Smith for details of this)
If your church wants to get involved there’s still time! Just get in touch via the contacts page.
We have decided to focus our attention on the following barriers- please use this booklet as a guide for your own times of prayer and reflection, or use the below list:
- Legal representation
- Mental health problems
- Stigmatisation
- Waiting lists
- Funding
- Awareness-raising and campaigning
- Problems with individual cases, such as lack of evidence
- Financial independence (both for those seeking asylum and for those granted status)
Please do pray for these issues over the coming weeks- our clients face such problems every day, and we long to see God’s provision and breakthrough in each person’s life.
The next Boaz Family Night is happening on Saturday February 25th
This is bi-monthly opportunity for clients, supporters and team members to gather together, eat, celebrate and spend some time in prayer and worship. We’re doing it all over again on February 25th and everyone is invited. Please get in touch if you want more details- or watch out for updates on the blog.
