Dave awarded British Empire Medal
Congratulations to our Director and Founder, Dave Smith, who has been awarded a British Empire Medal in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List. This is great recognition of his dedication to the issues faced by our beneficiaries, and is an amazing honour. You can see the full honours list here.
Dave is delighted with the award but adds: “I was surprised to be awarded the BEM. I do truly appreciate the recognition, but at the same time I feel that there is a disconnect somewhere. The award is for services to the community in Manchester. Currently that means supporting destitute asylum seekers, whose asylum claims have been turned down by the Home Office and who have been told to leave the UK. It seems strange to acknowledge me whilst rejecting those I represent.”
